Vicki,

The National Archives and Records Administration has a web site where you can download a form to request service records. FamilySearch.org is also putting Revolutionary War records online but I don't know how long the project will take. Hope it will be soon!

I have three Revolutionary War ancestors: Theodore and Abraham Parmelee, and Benjamin Colman. None of them were at Valley Forge, I think, but I would have to trace where the Parmelees were engaged and stationed. Now I'm curious. Where do you find records of that war?

Bethlehemite was named for the hospital for the mentally ill in England. It's also where we get the term "Bedlam." Good post!

It is hard for me to believe this particular changing point in history could occur again or something similar. We live in an "information age", people base there actions and opinions on many sources. I just don't think a minister could have such a world altering affect. But, hopefully, as all Christians follow their own hearts and belief system - the world can be a better place. Keep writing, I certainly enjoy checking out whats new at this blog. Thanks!

Thank you for your comment. I think Themis, Valon and Anton are nice names that a child could certainly grow into. But I still wonder about other names that lend themselves to teasing etc. Most kids have enough problems growing up without having that to deal with. But in the long run you're right, it could build character and strength.

Enjoyed the article..Yes I've come across some interesting names in the past. My English teacher was named Mr. Pickup, another English teacher, Mrs. Sourbutts..we all giggled in school!!

My grandson//Valon Anton Danger Cole (Hope he doesn't live up to that middle name! Anton is my grandfather's name) My son's name in Themis (fullname Themistos is greek..named after a dear friend who I met in France)

Rosalinda
Do you think we eventually grow into our names? Many strange name bearers probably alter their challenge, from weakness to strength.

I love Abraham Lincoln! As you look at his life, you could say look at all of the failures that he had. I like to say look at the great experiences he learned from so he could succeed. He never gave up.
